Red Chilli Hideaway

Red Chilli Hideaway

OVERVIEW

Red Chilli has been operating budget lodges, campsites and tours in Uganda since 1999. The Red Chilli Hideaway in Kampala first opened its doors on a 2.5 acre piece of neglected land, comprising a scattering of derelict buildings. Initially catering for campers and overland trucks only, our facilities included just a few cold water showers and some semi-chilled drinks. By contrast, 14 years later we can now sleep over 100 guests in dorm beds and private rooms, and our extensive facilities on our bigger plot have grown alongside our popularity.

In 2002 we were awarded the Uganda Wildlife Authority concession to manage the Rest Camp at Paraa, in the heart of Murchison Falls National Park. We have spent the last 11 years developing the camp and enabling budget tourists to also experience the beauty of Murchison, previously only the playground of the exclusive traveller.

As budget tourism in Uganda has grown, so has the demand for affordable scheduled and tailor-made tours. We now offer 3 different scheduled Murchison Falls tours and we usually have at least one trip departing every second day from our camp in Kampala. We also run a popular scheduled Queen Elizabeth tour and put together individual packages on request, including other safari destinations, gorilla & chimpanzee tracking and hiking. We act as booking agents for many varied activities, such as white water rafting, canoeing, quad-biking and bungee jumping and can arrange airport transfers and budget vehicle/driver hire.

The Red Chilli is a member of AUTO (Association of Uganda Tour Operators) and our efforts to support sustainable tourism have resulted in several accolades and recently a USAID award for being a Sustainable Tourism Leader. We currently employ over 60 local staff.

Please email, telephone or drop into our office to make a booking enquiry. Alternatively, you can use the online reservation enquiry form for accommodation or tours. We are very happy to share our 14 years of experience in tourism in Uganda in order to help you plan your dream trip. We look forward to hearing from you!

Frequently Asked Questions

We strongly recommend bringing a backpack or duffel bag, as suitcases can be cumbersome and difficult to store in buses, under seats, etc.. Keep in mind that you will normally have to carry your own luggage on and off buses and trains and up and down hotel staircases. Suitcases with wheels may not work well on dirt or cobblestone roads.

Travelers arrive from all over the world to begin our tours and it is not possible to include international airfare in our prices. We would be happy to help you arrange flights. Just ask for an air quote when making your booking.

We always recommend packing as light as possible however the specific requirements for your tour will vary widely depending on where and when you are traveling. Our 'Trip Details' document includes a suggested packing list and these can be downloaded from each individual trip summary page. The checklist is tour specific and based upon the experience of our ground staff.

Requirements for travel visas vary widely depending on your nationality and your destination. Although we are unable to arrange visas on your behalf we have provided links on our “Resources” page to websites that will help you determine if visas are required. If you do require a visa you can arrange them yourself or use the services of a travel agent or visa processing company.

We keep our group sizes low so you have the freedom to move around and get involved with your surroundings, as well as more personal attention from our local guides. This intimate size ensures that your group will not crowd your experience. You can expect up to 15 travelers on a trip but the average is 10. Check individual trip pages for maximum group sizes.
